Scenic Photography Tips

If you’re interested in capturing stunning Glacier National Park photos or doing some scenic photography in other locations, there are some crucial things to keep in mind before you begin the journey. As a professional photographer for over 25 years, I’ve captured incredible Glacier National Park photos and many others that truly showcase the beauty of these wild and wonderful places. Read on to learn a few important scenic photography tips in case you’d like to try and capture some of your own.

  • Always respect the wildlife at any national park or forest and remain at a safe distance so that the animals don’t feel threatened. If you want to get some stunning images of wildlife, use a telephoto lens. Be sure that you’re always following the signs and/or directions posted in any national park you visit and be respectful of the wildlife living there. Not only will this help to keep you safe, but it will keep the animals safe, too.

  • If you notice any areas roped off, never walk beyond the rope. These ropes are there for a reason and are designed to help protect the rare and endangered species and vegetation living there.

  • Consider putting your smartphone away while doing scenic photography to help you stay focused on the landscape around you. Always keep a proper distance from any wild animals that you may see on your journey.

  • Stay on the designated trails when you’re taking photos so that you don’t get lost. It’s also important to stick to the trails to protect the environmental surroundings from too much human traffic.

  • You may take casual visitor Glacier National Park photos, but professional and commercial photography may only be done after getting a permit.

  • Do not bring a drone to the national parks. Using a drone in Glacier National Park is strictly prohibited.
